Itinerary
NJP / Bagdogra / Siliguri → Aritar Instead of going straight to busy Gangtok, your journey begins in peaceful Aritar. Spend time around Lampokhari Lake, look down over the surrounding hills from Mankhim Dara, and ease into the slower rhythm of East Sikkim. Aritar → Rongli → Lingtam → Padamchen → Zuluk Today the road begins following the historic Silk Route. Pass through small mountain settlements such as Rongli, Lingtam and Padamchen before reaching Zuluk. This is the classic Silk Route day. Climb Zuluk's famous zig-zag road to Thambi View Point, continue through Lungthung, then enter the wide high-altitude landscape of Gnathang Valley before reaching the Kupup sector. If you have seen photographs of the Silk Route's endless hairpin bends, this is where they come from. Zuluk → Kupup → Baba Mandir → Nathula Pass → Tsomgo Lake → Gangtok* Instead of simply driving back to Gangtok, the journey keeps getting better. Continue from the Silk Route through Kupup, reach Baba Mandir, proceed towards Nathula Pass* when permitted, and stop at Tsomgo Lake before descending into Gangtok.
